SolarGIS News ArchiveSolar database for iMaps and pvPlanner is being extended to cover South America
Full funcionality of iMaps and pvPlanner is available for most of South American continent. Solar radiation data for the western part (Chile and surrounding countries) is derived from GEOS-EAST satellite data, which are analyzed for a period 2006 to 2011 with a 30-minute to 3-hour temporal resolution. The period will be extended to cover 1999 to 2011 in the close future. The eastern part (Brasilia and surrounding countries) is derived from Meteosat satellites, operating in the PRIME region. Presently, solar radiation data for a period 1994 to 2004 in a 30-minute temporal resolution are available for iMaps and pvPlanner. This period will be extended to 1994 to 2011.

Scientific paper among the 10 top cited articles in Solar Energy journal
The scientific paper
"Šúri M., Huld T.A., Dunlop E.D., Ossenbrink H.A.: is in the TOP 10 cited articles within the last 5 years in Solar Energy journal.
The main contributor, Mr. Marcel Šúri, is the author of SolarGIS Operational data services including web-services and FTP/email data delivery launched
SolarGIS data and computational methods now available via web-services. The first web-service in use imitates the click on the Calculate button in pvPlanner application.
SolarGIS data used as a reference for comparing and validationSolarGIS solar radiation data have been used as a reference for comparison and validation of ground measurements for 4 sites in Germany and the Netherlands. The authors - André Mermoud (University of Geneva and co-founder of PVsyst) and Pierre Ineichen (University of Geneva, solar radiation expert), explain the possible issues with sensor calibration and resulting underestimation of PV simulation. Download and read two full-text articles (in the chapter Software evaluation). SolarGIS pvSpot launched in beta releaseThe new SolarGIS application - pvSpot - has been launched in beta release. SolarGIS pvSpot provides estimates of PV production for any PV system in the area covered by SolarGIS database. It is a sensor-less and independent solution of monitoring electricity production of your PV installations. While in beta version, the system is free to use. Try pvSpot now! New cartographic enhancements and updates of GHI and DNI maps in SolarGIS iMapsThe updated full coverage maps of Global horizontal irradiation (GHI) and Direct normal irradiation (DNI) have been released. When PV system is not located in the open landscape, but e.g. in urban area, some objects (like high buildings, big trees, etc.) can shade the modules during some periods of the day. Interactive Horizon editor provides the tools for adaptation of the horizon based on the horizon maps, panorama photos or simple geometric estimation. Horizon editor can be particularly helpful for designing PV roof systems. iMaps ReportsNew feature provides access to long-term monthly and annual averages of solar and air-temperature parameters directly from iMaps. According to IEA SHC Task 36 study, SolarGIS is the best performing databaseThe recent IEA SHC Task 36 data inter-comparison activity, lead by Pierre Ineichen from University of Geneva, has independently confirmed that SolarGIS is the best performing solar radiation database presently available on the market. The major strengths of SolarGIS are in the balanced statistical representation of the values (histograms), very good accuracy in GHI and excellent accuracy in DNI. The low RMSE makes it best performing for a system performance assessment and for monitoring.
